Swim 21
  • The origins of the Club date back to the late 1880’s when Belper Swimming Club was first formed by two local School Masters Mr Dan Wilson and Mr A Moselley.
  • Races took place in the Victorian Swimming Baths which were constructed in still water in the River Derwent the length of the course was eighty yards long.
  • In 1910 the Club moved to the newly built baths in Gibfield Lane, which had been built by the Strutt Family for the residents of Belper.
  • Swimming continued at Gibfield Lane using the name Belper Men’s Swimming Club until 1974.
  • When the pool at Kilbourne Road open in 1974 the Club moved there and females were accepted as members for the first time and the name reverted back to Belper Swimming Club.
  • When it became apparent that younger age group swimming was to be the future for the Club a new name was sought and on May the 30th 1977 it was agreed that Belper Marlin Swimming Club would be the name.
  • The Club has three honorary Life Members who were nominated for their outstanding services to the Club they are:
